PL Starts Season In Blowout Fashion, beats Red Wing 7-0

The Prior Lake Legion team kicked off the summer season with a convincing 7-0 win over Red Wing last night (6/11) at Memorial Park.

Andrew Gabbard got the win on the mound. He lasted 5 innings, giving up 5 hits and no runs. Tony Loehr threw the final 2 innings, striking out 4 also giving up no runs. The two pitchers combined for hopefully the first shutout of many this season. The key for both hurlers was getting ahead of hitters as they are both known for being very good at hitting their spots. If they continue to get ahead in counts, both Andrew and Tony will continue to have great success on the mound this summer.

Meanwhile, at the plate, it was a solid team effort in order to get 7 runs across. Tommy Keating and Zac Repinski led the way as they both finished with 2 hits and 2 RBI's apiece. Matt Probst also finished with 2 hits. The 5th inning was the biggest for PL. Zach Scherer led off the inning with a bunt single. Although he was caught stealing on the next pitch, his hit seemed to give the team some needed energy. After Scherer was thrown out, Jonny Houston worked a walk followed by a Probst single to left, setting up for perhaps the most important at bat of the night. With a 2-0 lead and 2 runners on, PL was looking for some breathing room and they got it as Repinski ripped a double into left center, scoring Houston and Probst, making it 4-0 and seemingly opening the floodgates . The inning continued with a couple walks and a hit by pitch and by the time the frame ended Prior Lake had the 7-0 lead that it would not relinquish.

Tonight, Prior Lake travels to Shakopee to take on a talented Saber team who finished 13-6 overall during the high school season, good enough for 2nd in the Missota Conference. First pitch will be at 7pm from Schlepper Field in Shakopee.
